Kelsey Berezin
Senior Managing Attorney
Kelsey Berezin is Tiemann Defense’s Senior Managing Attorney and handles all case management and litigation issues. She began working with Tiemann Defense in 2015 and has over 15 years of criminal defense experience. Over the years, Mrs. Berezin has negotiated thousands of favorable resolutions for clients including reduced punishment, reduced charges, and dismissals.
Mrs. Berezin graduated from California State University, Chico, majoring in Political Science with an emphasis in Legal Studies. Following her graduation from Chico State, she attended Lincoln Law School in Sacramento. Before joining Tiemann Defense, Mrs. Berezin worked at the Sacramento County Public Defender’s Office.
In her capacity as senior managing attorney, Mrs. Berezin will contact you to review the police reports, discuss defenses and various case resolutions including jury trial, and determine if additional investigation, discovery, or case mitigation is needed to help resolve your case. Mrs. Berezin will communicate directly with the prosecutor, and in some cases the judge, to achieve the best possible outcome for you.
QUALIFICATIONS
Trial Attorney: To date, Mrs. Berezin has never lost a DUI trial. In her current position, Mrs. Berezin manages the day-to-day operations of the Tiemann Defense Firm.
Breath/Blood Testing Science: Mrs. Berezin is an expert in the science behind the metabolism of alcohol or drugs and the problems associated with breath and blood testing methods.
Breath Test Equipment: Mrs. Berezin has received extensive training on the breath machines used in DUI cases. This allows her to aggressively cross-examine police officers and state experts on the operation, maintenance, and calibration of the devices because she knows the machines are often not used and calibrated properly.
Blood Testing: Mrs. Berezin has received training on DUI alcohol and Drug testing. This allows her to vigorously cross-examine the state criminalist on alcohol and drug testing and the many problems associated with drug and alcohol testing methods.
Standardized Field Sobriety Test: Mrs. Berezin has received training on Field Sobriety Test administration. This allows her to cross-examine the police officer’s administration of field sobriety tests because he knows they are often not administered properly resulting in erroneous officer opinions in court.
Drug DUI Expert: Mrs. Berezin has received training in drug recognition exams (DRE). This allows her to challenge the police officer on the results of the DRE exam and how the facts often contradict the officer’s conclusions in Drug DUI cases.
Police/Lab Procedures: Mrs. Berezin has an extensive library of law enforcement and laboratory procedures manuals which he has studied and uses to challenge the state’s case because he knows that in most DUI cases the State does not follow their own regulations and procedures.
